Team Stallions vs Team YM
The title belongs to Team Stallions! A long season that started rough in the beginning culminates in a lopsided title game victory for the undefeated Stallions! The game started off slow with spurts of scoring by the Stallions, but YM started very slow! When I mean slow, I mean almost “Continental Drift” type slow!
A lot of missed jump shots riddled the YM team, some over passing in certain fast break situations didn’t help either. What really plagued YM were the missed layups!!! I believe Team YM missed as many layups as Team Stallion made! I’m not exaggerating when I say that. The made way more layups in their regular season meeting, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by this showing.
YM had flashes of greatness in spots. The great team ball movement and hustle was always there. Team YM usually has just about everybody in the scoring column, which was one of the big reasons they made it to the championship! Their leading scorer T.J. #0 arguably had his worst game of the season, but his hustle and continuing offensive and defensive pressure was constant. It wasn’t all Doom and Gloom for YM. There were flashes of their former selves:
The Stallions started out slow this game like usual, but not as bad as previous games. Noticably absent in this game was Brian “Hosty” Host, which has spawned many rumors of in-infighting, contract negotiations, and ill-called timeouts among the many reasons for this “Self Imposed” benching (I may be just making this all up in my mind, but since i’m writing this piece I’m going to roll with it)! With Roger “The Flash” Sheung, the return of sharp shooting Neb, and the emergence of Darryl “BAREA” Lardizabal, Team Stallions were in great shape!
The halftime lead was nearly 20, but almost as soon as the 2nd half started the score got ridiculous! With YM still missing point blank layups and over passing, Team Stallions started to pull away like their feet were running on hot coals!!!
The second half was more of the same times three! The Stallions ran out to a 30+ point lead midway through the 2nd half. Right after I shut the highlight camera down for the night, something MAGICAL began to develop! YM’s Glen #8 came out of no where to record his best game of the season! Hitting 1 three pointer in the first half, he added to his total stroking 5 more in the second half! Four of which were almost back to back to back to back!
With the excitement of that single handed, Herculean feat….they were still down 26!!!
When it was ll said and done, The Stallions walked off with the 2011 Vancouver Metro Championship Title! Roger “The Flash” Sheung claimed the regular season MVP, but teammate Luis Ayala took home the Playoff MVP! A season that started with mixed events, turned out to become a formidable extravaganza of ups and downs, highs and lows, culminating in a season we will not forget for a while!
