LOST AND FOUND NOTICE!!! A LIGHT GREY SWEATSHIRT WAS “ACCIDENTALLY” REMOVED FROM THE COURT AT VANCOUVER METRO LAST NIGHT. IT IS A PLAIN LIGHT GREY SWEATSHIRT, BUT THE TWO MAIN IDENTIFYING MARKS ARE: 1) The tag inside of the sweatshirt reads B.T.L. which stands for “Beyond the Line”, and the initials are in calligraphy. 2) It is a 3XL!!! Only a handful of players can even fit this sweatshirt in Vancouver Metro, so it is not hard to identify. Please email me if you or someone you know accidentally packed it away. Thank You.

WEEK 3 – FEB 20th

-

Royal 48 VS Team YM 64

A competitive 1st half for both clubs looked like it would lead to a nail biter in the end. YM took a 3 point lead into halftime led by JP Beheana’s 11 points and Mike Li’s 8 points. Royals Denny Cheung’s 12 points and Vincent Lam’s 10 points kept them within striking distance for the 2nd half.

However, YM came out with their trademark pressure defense and they put the game out of reach on their way to a 16 point victory. Mike Li led all scores with 22 points while the Royal’s Vincent Lam ended with 17 points.

-

Still Ballin’ 80 VS SWAT 87

Team Swat start the game hotter than a firecracker! Swat’s Mark Tasic went “En Fuego” in the first half with 16 1st half points! New addition to Still Ballin’ Garrett Wilkinson had 13 points at the half, with two three pointers. Team Swat led 46-28 at halftime, and maintained that lead until midway thru the 2nd half.

It was almost like Game 2 of the NBA Finals last year, without all the celebrating! Still Ballin’ went on a ridiculous 17-7 run, hitting 9 2nd half 3 pointers!!! Forced to call a timeout to regroup, Swat found themselves only up 1 point with less than 2 minutes left in the game. In the end Swat was able to sneak in a few layups on some great passes to end the game a 9-2 run.

-

Stallions 61 VS B2B 54

With a key player out with a sprained ankle and Brian “Hosty” Host suffering an early ankle sprain in the 1st half, this game took on a whole new texture. The Scrappiness of Team B2B kept them with striking distance of an upset of the defending champions! The Stallions led 32-27 at halftime, but it was an unsteady 5 point lead.

B2B pressed the action the whole second half, but the experience and poise of the Stallions prevailed in the end. Frank liu and Ken Kuo led B2B with 18 and 12 points, respectively. The Stallions Neb Aleksic led all scores with 19.

Another big showdown for the Stallions comes in week 4 vs the undefeated Swat squad, who still remember last season’s 14 point loss in week 1! It is guaranteed to be an action packed slobberknocker!!!

-

Lemon Party 42 VS Van City Blazers 45

In a low scoring defensive battle, Van City was able to hold off the scrappy newcomers Team Lemon Party. Both teams had a balanced attack, but Van City had the big defensive stops down the stretch. Jay # 8 had 11 points for Van City followed by Pavel #5′s 10 points, and Richard #32′s 8 points . Lemon Party’s Josh #7′ led all scores with 18 points. Doug #10 added 9 points in the losing effort.

-

United 78 VS Sonic Boom 69

With the absence of their leading rebounder and 3rd leading scorer, Sonic Boom faced an uphill battle vs the talented Team United squad. Team united did a good job of making most of Sonic Boom’s field goal attempts difficult. United led 43-35 at halftime, but Sonic Boom didn’t throw in the towel.

In the 2nd half, Team United seamed to have the game under control even with alot of contact and the occasional “chippiness” you would find in a highly competitive league game. In the losing effort, Jamie Tarriba had 19 ponts for Sonic Boom. Will Chiang and Seiji Suzuki added 19 points each.

-

Vancouver Prep 85 VS War Pigs 45

The revamped Vancouver Prep team went up against a War Pigs squad that have improved every game since late last season. On this day though, it was all Van Prep! Trey Mel, a former Van Prep member, was ironically on the other end of a lopsided defeat by his former team! War Pigs Tim Ball led them with 18 point, while Harvey Rollins chipped in 7 points. One of Van Prep’s new additions in AJ #12 took it easy from his usual 25 and 30 point games to give way to Dustin #8 and Jag #73 shine in the spotlight! Jag a week 3 league high 28 points adding 8 three pointers! Dustin #8 knocking in 21 points

-

BC Ballers 86 VS Wildcats 81 OT

J-Wai 52 VS Nike Vancouver 62

GAME OF THE WEEK!!!!

SWAT 70 VS United 68 OT

No surprise here! League Commissioner Matt Raimondo was absent attending his team’s youth basketball final, but the new entry into the Vancouver Metro league Team United was still stacked! Team Swat was down to 5 players tonight, and I for one was a little worried. Little did I know…it would be an indoor track meet!

Team Swat battled from start to finish, with Team United matching every move. I was gassed some where in near the 10 minute mark, but the rest of Team Swat battled on! Team Swat took a late 6 point lead with 2 minutes left in the game, but Team United slapped on a full court press and knocked down two 3 pointers to tie the game and send it to OT!

OT was just as tight as the last 2 minutes of regulation. Just when Team United looked to have the upper hand, Mark Tasic sank four clutch free throws to send Swat ahead by 2! Team United had one last chance but the running floater was missed, and Swat came away with a slight upset victory!

Swat moves to 2-0, while United suffers there first loss of the season. It is a long season and anything can happen. Especially in the playoffs!

Stallions 71 VS BC Ballers 69 OT

The gauntlet was dropped week one from an “anonomous” source close to Team BC Ballers. ”We are sick of seeing Roger’s name on the league site every week” as proclaimed by that source. ”There a new sheriff in town” (I maybe paraphrasing, but it sounds more intriguing)!

Short handed, Team BC Ballers made up for that with pure determination and focus. The object of their focus…The League Defending Champion Team Stallions! The figure heads of this battle was between Ricardo Hernandez and Stallions Roger Sheong! Teammates in another league, but bitter rivals in this one! BC Ballers took a 4 point lead into halftime, and was able to push it to an 8 point lead late in the 2nd half!

With 1:51 seconds left in the game, some people in the stands began saying that this game was over. I made sure I echoed my rebuttal so all of them could hear it when I said, “8 points with 2 minutes left….is plenty of time.” I could tell some of them thought I didn’t know what I was talking about, but shortly after last timeout The Stallions made me look like a prophet! The Stallions slapped on a relentless full court press to cause 3 almost immediate turnovers. With the help of a few missed layups by BC Ballers, Team Stallions may a late layup that would force overtime!

In OT, it went down to the wire with the Stallions up 4 with less than 1 minute left. BC Ballers hit a 2 pointer to cut the lead to two, and with the Stallions not getting a good shot off gave BC Ballers a chance to tie or win the game! However, BC Ballers were not able to get up a decent shot and round one went to Roger Sheong and The Stallions!

This rivalry is just beginning, and I’ll be there to keep you posted on it!

Team YM 68 VS J-Wai 66

Last year’s runner ups Team YM was locked in an epic battle with their last year’s rivals in Team J-Wai! This was nothing short of a battle from start to finish. J-Wai continued to put pressure on YM by fast breaking, but YM was up to the task with their own half court offense. YM went up 2 late in the 2nd half, but J-Wai had one chance left to tie or win the game. As the play developed, it looked like YM had a defensive assignment breakdown allowing the J-Wai guard to dance right down the middle of the key! With 2 seconds on the clock the put up a 3 foot finger roll…..THAT HIT THE BACK OF THE RIM AND CAME OUT!!!! Team YM escaped with a 2 point victory, while Team J-Wai go home and regroup for next week.

Nike Vancouver 67 VS Vancouver Prep 60

With the return of Anthony “Lebron James” Lao, it looked like Team Nike was primed to make a run for the title this year! The new look Team Vancouver Prep had other ideas! Team Nike had the advantage for most of the game, until the the last part of the 2nd half when Team Van Prep continued to fight for the upset victory. In the end, it was Team Nike that won going away leaving Van Prep with a 7 point loss.

Van City Blazers 40 VS War Pigs 41

It got a little chippy in this game in the 2nd half when a member of Team Van City Blazers was shoved into the 3rd row! The flagrant foul came on a 2 on 1 fast break vs War Pigs. The shove was to prevent a fast break layup, but from that point on it was highly focused and intense till the end. The War Pigs were able to withstand a last second barrage by Van City to pull out a 1 point triumph!

Team War Pigs continues to look better and better as they continue to build chemisty from late last season.

Sonic Boom 61 VS B2B 47

This game was closer than the score indicates. Team B2B put up a good fight, but the talent and chemistry of Team Sonic Boom won out in the end. I would venture to say that this was one of Sonic Boom’s worst showings in a handful of games dating back to last season. Yet they were still able to pull out a double digit victory!

EJB 68 VS Still Ballin’ 49

Lemon Party VS Royal – Postponed

Kicks of the Week!!!

GAME OF THE WEEK!!!

Team YM 73 – Nike Vancouver 72

The saga between these team continued in week 1 of the 2012 Vancouver Metro season! The battles between these teams were among the best in the league last season! With only a few people missing from each team, it turned into another classic!

Both teams had balanced scoring throughout the game, which is why these games are always action packed! YM took the halftime lead 39-29, but Team Nike Vancouver came storming back late in the 2nd half. Erasing a 14 point depict, Nike Vancouver looked poised for a comeback win. YM stemed the comeback with a late 3 pointer by TJ Almodovar and 2 clutch free throws by JP “Charles Barkley” Beheana! The final score was 73-72!

JP Beheana led YM with 21 points, and Rod Digoangco led Team Nike with 12 points.

With the return of a few players for Team YM, and the return of Anthony “Lebron James” Lao for Team Nike, should add even more fireworks to this rivalry!

Team Stallions 84 _ Team Wildcats 80

The defending champs looked determined to avoid last year’s typical “slow start”, and was able to find a decent rhythem early. Team Wildcats were up to the challenge, and held an early 17-11 advantage! Team Stallions made a 10 run to end the 1st half up 43-36!

In the second half, this game turned into a dogfight! Even with Gramae McCallum and Kyle Watson M.I.A., Team Wildcats battled tooth and nail in hopes of an early season upset. Team Stallions put together their own team effort with everyone scoring but one person in the 2nd half!

With less than 30 seconds left, Team Wildcat’s Tyler Wilson nailed a 3 pointer to close the gap to 2 points. The Stallion’s glue guy from last season Darryl Lardisabel nailed 2 clutch free throws to put the game away 84-80.

Braeden #22 led all scores with 21 for the Wildcats. Roger “Hopefully I spell your name right this year” Sheong led the Stallions with 19, and Brian “Hosty” Host had 17.

Team Royal 83 – Team Blazers 47

Team Royal’s Melo #7 led all scores with 27 points, while Dusty #23 scored 13 for Team Blazers.

Team Warpigs 62 – Team Lemon Party 57

The kids on the block named “Team Lemon Party” looks to be a force to be reckon with in this new season of the Vancouver Metro league! Taking a 3 point lead into halftime over the veteran Team Warpigs! The Lemon Party was led by Ryan #4′s 17 point 1st half which included Five 3 pointers!

The Warpigs would not be out done! Led by Tin #31 who ended with 20 (10 points in both halfs), the Warpigs dug deep and gutted out a 62-57 victory! Ryan #4 ended with 22 points for Team Lemon Party.

Team United 87 – Team B2B 61

Commissioner Matthew Raimondo made his 2012 debut in the Vancouver Metro League the other night! Stacked from head to toe with talent, Team United took the court and was in an early dogfight with Team B2B! The halftime score was 44-36, but Team United ran and hid with the game with a final score of 87-61.

Mike Li of Team B2B had a team high 20 points in the loss.

Team Swat 82 – Team Sonic Boom 72

Here it is! The game that everyone has been waiting for (or maybe just a few people). Team Swat is back!!! The bad news was that we had to face a team that was 5 points from making it to the championship game in Team Sonic Boom! The 3 headed guard attack from last year was no more, with one of their double figure scoring guards vacating the team. Yet the still had their leading scorers from last season in Will Chiang and Seiji Suzuki. Connor Rockandel and Ian Pierre-Louis anchored the front court for Sonic Boom. Team Swat with nearly a new team with a few players from Team Swat past in Terry and Daniel. We also had a good mix of young and old hoopers to start the season.

The game was nip and tuck in the first half. Both teams trading shots, and working out the kinks. While Stuart #0 had 7 early points, Team Swat’s Jason Birring heated up near the end of the 1st half with 18 first half points. Team Swat led by 1 at the half 42-41. In the middle of the 2nd half, Team Swat found a good rhythm in the form of fast breaking and good team defense! Mark Tasic and Colin Plumb took over the game from the inside and outside. Colin drained three 3 pointers with his last one from about 25 feet! While Mark Tasic ran the court and pounded the Sonic Boom front line for 10 grueling points! Yours truly (Me) chipped in 9 points off of garbage buckets and great assists from my teammates. Team Swat held on to win 82-72.

Jason Birring led Team Swat with 19 points, while Mark Tasic and Colin Plumb had 15 each. Clint Lomax chipped in an ugly 13 points in the winning effort. Sonic Boom’s Seiji Suzuki led all scores with 25 points! Will Chiang knocked in 18, and Ian Pierre-Louis had 17.

Team Van Prep 86 – Team J-Wai 67

Van Prep ended the season with a lot of talent, but no chemistry. Facing a scrappy J-Wai team, it was an intriguing matchup with the added anticipation of how Van Prep would look! Van prep controlled this game from start to finish! They led 46-38 at half time and increased that margin of victory to 19 with an 86-67 victory.

Team BC Ballers 83 – Team Still Ballin’ 51

Another new group named “Team BC Ballers” have laid the gaunlet down vs Team Stallions! Talking to an “UNIDENTIFIED SOURCE” after their 87-61 victory over Team B2B, this source proclaimed this…”We are tired of seeing Roger’s name all over the league website every week!” He went on to say, “There are new sheriffs in town, and their name(s) is Team BC Ballers!”

That last part I paraphrased a little, but the vibe of that quote was competitive! Their week 2 matchup will be one to watch for sure!

Kicks of the Week!!!!

The title belongs to Team Stallions! A long season that started rough in the beginning culminates in a lopsided title game victory for the undefeated Stallions! The game started off slow with spurts of scoring by the Stallions, but YM started very slow! When I mean slow, I mean almost “Continental Drift” type slow!

A lot of missed jump shots riddled the YM team, some over passing in certain fast break situations didn’t help either. What really plagued YM were the missed layups!!! I believe Team YM missed as many layups as Team Stallion made! I’m not exaggerating when I say that. The made way more layups in their regular season meeting, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by this showing.

YM had flashes of greatness in spots. The great team ball movement and hustle was always there. Team YM usually has just about everybody in the scoring column, which was one of the big reasons they made it to the championship! Their leading scorer T.J. #0 arguably had his worst game of the season, but his hustle and continuing offensive and defensive pressure was constant. It wasn’t all Doom and Gloom for YM. There were flashes of their former selves:

The Stallions started out slow this game like usual, but not as bad as previous games. Noticably absent in this game was Brian “Hosty” Host, which has spawned many rumors of in-infighting, contract negotiations, and ill-called timeouts among the many reasons for this “Self Imposed” benching (I may be just making this all up in my mind, but since i’m writing this piece I’m going to roll with it)! With Roger “The Flash” Sheung, the return of sharp shooting Neb, and the emergence of Darryl “BAREA” Lardizabal, Team Stallions were in great shape!

The halftime lead was nearly 20, but almost as soon as the 2nd half started the score got ridiculous! With YM still missing point blank layups and over passing, Team Stallions started to pull away like their feet were running on hot coals!!!

The second half was more of the same times three! The Stallions ran out to a 30+ point lead midway through the 2nd half. Right after I shut the highlight camera down for the night, something MAGICAL began to develop! YM’s Glen #8 came out of no where to record his best game of the season! Hitting 1 three pointer in the first half, he added to his total stroking 5 more in the second half! Four of which were almost back to back to back to back!

With the excitement of that single handed, Herculean feat….they were still down 26!!!

When it was ll said and done, The Stallions walked off with the 2011 Vancouver Metro Championship Title! Roger “The Flash” Sheung claimed the regular season MVP, but teammate Luis Ayala took home the Playoff MVP! A season that started with mixed events, turned out to become a formidable extravaganza of ups and downs, highs and lows, culminating in a season we will not forget for a while!

Team Stallions 80 – Sonic Boom 74

One game away from the Championship game, and once again Team Stallions start out sluggish! A dangerous proposition going against the high octane group in Team Sonic Boom. Even without their leading scorer in Will Chiang, Sonic Boom has a natural chemistry that is rarely seen in leagues like this!

As The Stallions put-putted out of the gate, Sonic Boom’s Seiji Suzuki and Frank Liu came out scorching the net! With Ian Pierre-Louis cleaning the glass for rebounds, Frank and Seiji were going bananas! The combined for 23 1st half points, but Connor Rockandel was crucial in creating another player the Stallions had to account for! Unfortunately he ran into foul trouble in a few crucial spots during the game.

With a few forced turnovers and some easy buckets Team Stallions finally caught some fire! The total team energy helped wake op their sleep walking 1st half style. The added boost, fresh from his self imposed hiatus, Nebo “Neb” Aleksic added the outside punch the Stallions needed to assert their dominance!

While Roger and Neb continued to put pressure on Sonic Boom offensively, Luis Ayala, Brian “Hosty” Host, and Darryl Lardizabal were all over Sonic Boom on defense! The Stallions complete a few cruical possesstion inside of the last 2 minutes of the game to make it a two possession game. The Stallion’s defense forced Sonic Boom into a rushed follow away jumpshot and a missed point blank layup near the end of the game! The also had a chance to foul the worst free throw shooter on the Stallions team, chose to double team one player, which led to the ball being swung around to their best free throw shooter in Neb! After missing a free throw earlier, he nailed the two that put the game out of reach.

While the Stallions move on to the title game vs the winner of Team YM/Team Nike Vancouver, Sonic Boom had a great season, and a highlight of the night……

Team YM 73 – Nike Vancouver 65

A great matchup in the making! Both teams came into this game as high octane, high energy athletes! On paper, it looked like Team Nike had the advantage, but I never count out Team YM! The only team in the league that presses full court for the majority of the game, not to mention traps and jumping in the passing lanes for weak passes.

With Nike’s Matt Anza, Choli Epondulan, Joe Tozzi, and Anthony “Lebron James” Lao (heard that from a guy in the crowd during the game), it looked like they were well on their way to matching up against the Stallions in the title game. Before we could put that in writing, YM made a case for deserving to be in that title game!

YM’s JP #0 had a game high 32 points, and was scoring from all over the place along with having 2 blocked shots! Jack #7 had a good game too for YM with 22 points! The usual suspects for Nike had good games too, but they were out dueled and out hustled in the end by YM! In my opinion this is a mild upset. I’ve seen YM play all season, and they definitely deserve to be a high seed in the playoffs. I am not that surprised that they made it to the title game vs Team Stallions.

Team Sonic Boom 77 – Team Still Ballin 76

This first round game was close the entire game! Neither team led by double digits at any time! With Will Chiang out of the country, the team’s new Big 3 of: Ian Pierre-Louis, Seiji Suzuki, and Frank Liu anchored Sonic Boom! Not to be out done was Still Ballin’s Brandon Chancey, Ryan Fraser, “Orange” Juice Jarqun, and Jens Cutty were looking for the W!

A first half duel broke out between Sonic Boom’s Frank Liu and Still Ballin’s Brandon Chancey, both ending the first half with 11 each! Ballin’s Ryan Fraser vs Seiji Suzuki both had 9, and “Orange” Juice Jarqun and Ian “Jumpin’ Jack” Pierre-Louis had 7 apiece!

The 2nd half was equally as close with Sonic Boom holding a slight lead through most of the 2nd half. Sonic Boom’s Liu and Suzuki absolutely dominated with a combined 25 points in the 2nd half, but Boom’s Connor Rockandel anchored the inside play with 6 second half points! Just when you thought the game was over, Brandon Chauncey began to catch fire! While Sonic Boom was firing on all cylinders, Still Ballin’s Chauncey was scorching the net with 19 second half points, including 4 second half 3 pointers. With less than 30 seconds left, Ryan Fraser hit a clutch three to cut the lead to 1 point! Sonic Boom was able to run out the clock and escape with a 1 point victory.

Brandon Chancey led all scores with 31 points including six 3 pointers! Frank Liu had a team high 23 points, while Seiji Suzuki ended with 22 points.

Team Stallions 86 – Team Vancouver Prep 48

The Stallions got off to their usual slow start, but with Van Prep couldn’t capitalize on it. Due to missing players and injuries to key players, Van Prep just didn’t have the firepower to make this into a game. Roger Sheung, Brian Host, and Luis Ayala combined for 71 of the Stallions 86 points!

Brad Derksen led Van Prep with 16 points. Jasmin Demirovic had 5 points including a 1st half 30 foot 3 pointer, but that was all of the highlights for Van Prep until late in the 2nd half! A dust up involving T.J. and Roger Sheung looked to be more smoke than fire in the end, but it sure looked like an explosion at the beginning.

Team Nike 58 – Team J-Wai 47

With Anthony “#22″ Lao back in the lineup after suffering an ankle injury a few weeks ago, the odds for a Team Nike win dramatically increased! Team J-Wai has been an upset contender all season long, and looked to surprise Team Nike on this night. Both teams started off with the playoff jitters missing point blank layups and having a slew of turnovers!

Some where midway through the 1st half, Julio and Mr Lao carried Team Nike on their collective backs! Jacky “If That Is Your Real Name” Chan of J-Wai did his best impression of “Super Cop” scoring a team high 15 points, but Nike was too much on this night!

Anthony Lau had a game high 20 points, Julio chipped in 17 points, Matt Anza and Joe Tozzi both had 9 points. J-Wai’s Jimmy Fok had 8, and Jeremy chan added 6 points in the loss.

Team YM 48 – Team War Pigs 37

http://youtu.be/40p7F2wRd4E

After strong showings in their last three regular season games, Team War Pigs just couldn’t put it together on Monday! Scoring a season low 37 points, War Pigs didn’t give themselves much of a chance at victory. Not to take away from Team YM, because their defense was all out for the whole game! Full court pressing and trapping on made and missed baskets forced War Pigs into a number of unforced turnovers and rushed shots.

GAME OF THE WEEK!!!

Team Stallions – 82 – Team Still Ballin’ 60

If the playoffs had started today, these teams would be ranked #1 and #2 seeds! Both teams were in playoff form….up until mid way though the 2nd half! That is when the Stallions started to flex their playoff muscle! Brian “Hosty” Host anchored the first half barrage with 12 points, along with Luis Ayala’s 11 and Sean Powell’s 8. Ryan Fraser’s 8 points, and Brandon Chancey’s 6 kept the Still Ballin’ squad within striking range.

Hits of what was to come ended with the Stallions putting up an 8-2 run at the end of the first half! Roger “I think I spelled your last name right” Sheung and Luis Ayala helped the Stallions runaway with the game in the 2nd half! Brian Host and Roger Sheung tied each other with 16 points, but the unsung player on the Stallions is Luis Ayala who had 22 points to lead all scores. Ryan Fraser led Still Ballin’ with 19. Brandon Chancey had 14 points, and Blake Rogers chipped in 13.

Sonic Boom 65 – J-Wai 53

Team Sonic Boom took the court with only 5 players! As the game started, it seemed like the only question was….when will they run out of gas! With Will Chiang missing again from the lineup Seni Suzuki and Ian Pierre-Louis put on a show! Suzuki scorched J-Wai for 5 first quarter three pointers! He went on to score 26 points, while Pierre-Louis had a massive scoring line! Along with his 19 points, Pierre-Louis had an UNOFFICIAL VANCOUVER METRO RECORD 38 REBOUNDS!!!!! Mike Schmidt chipped in 12, while Ron Calizon and Neil Saunders had 4 apiece.

Martin Man led J-Wai with 13 points, with Jacky “If that is your real name” Chan with 10 points and Ken Choi threw in 8 in the losing effort.

Highlight of the game (it’s a little blurry)!

Nike Vancouver 59 – War Pigs 53

If it wasn’t for the #1 vs #2 matchup between the Stallions and Still Ballin’, this would have been the game of the week! The War Pigs seem to be gelling at the right time, and looks to be poised for every team that comes their way. Team Vancouver was missing Anthony “# 22” Lao, but Julio Epondulan filled in the scoring gap! From start to finish, this game was a closely contested battled. Julio was a consistent scorer though out the game, and hit 2 crucial buckets down the stretch to put the game out of reach! While Julio was player of the game, Matt Anza added 12 and Joe Tozi had 9 points.

Rich Vandegriend, Rob Kyskan, and Al Pulga all had 13 points apiece! The most crucial point for the War Pigs was the 4th foul on Rob Kyskan midway though the 2nd half. By the time War Pigs could recover, the game was out of reach. Dave Sherman for the War Pigs added 10 points in this hard fought battle.

Team YM 67 – Vancouver Prep 50

Vancouver Prep was missing two of their star players going up against the high powered YM team! Not a good combination, and it showed early. YM ran out to a fast double digit lead, before Van Prep cut the lead to 4 late in the 1st half. Once the 2nd half started, it was all YM for the rest of the game. YM’s JP had a game high 26 points, followed by Glen #6’s 15 points. Brad #23 and Jag #10 had 14 apiece, and Steve “Blue” had 10 points.

SPECIAL EDITION FOR WEEK 7: REAL OR FAKE?

In anticipation of the Jordan 11s being released on Dec 23rd, I ran into a player off of Team Nike that had a pair of the Jordan 11s….or did he?

POST GAME DUNK OF THE WEEK!!!

In week 5, I heard the rim collapse behind me. When I turned around, I saw this guy standing there barely 5’10″ tall. This week it happened again, and who do I see…that same guy holding a basketball and the rim shaking behind him! I had to stop him this time and asked him to do it again. At first he started to sandbag me talking about “Aaawww, I don’t think I can get up there again!” With a little encouragement from his teammates, this was the end result:

That guys name….Ken Choi of Team J-Wai! As he would say, “I’m 5’10″ with the hair style!”

KICKS OF THE WEEK!!!

-Brought to you by “Derrick” an employee of the Nike Factory in Burlington, WA!

Didn’t have to take off your shoe Derrick, but I love the enthusiasm!

GAME OF THE WEEK

Team Still Ballin’ 54 – Team Vancouver Prep 53

It was a dog fight from start to finish, but Still Ballin’ was able to hang on for the win! Only 2 people were held off the score board for Still Ballin’! Blake Rogers led them with 17 points.

Team Vancouver Prep seems to be adding good pieces to their squad, but has yet to find their chemistry. Former Byrne Creek standout Victor Kuol had a breakout game with 24 points. Another Byrne Creek high flyer in Jazmin Demirovic knocked in 12 points. With the playoffs right around the corner, I believe that Vancouver Prep may shock someone in the first round!

As of now, Still Ballin’ gets the credit for a hard fought victory.

Team J-Wai 45 – Team Nike 44

This game could have been game of the week, if it were not for this low score. Usually both team light up the scoreboard! I was checking to see if some one was hurt or missing on both teams! Ironically enough, it was a defensive struggle! J-Wai was anchored by Jacky “If that is your real name” Chan’s 18 points, followed by Roger Zengs 14 points.

Team Nike’s Anthony Lao and Matt Aliza both had 16 points in the losing effort. One of the stars from last week was not in uniform for Team Nike, and that may have been the difference. #9 scored 12 late points in their victory over YM last week .

Team YM 69 – Sonic Boom 61

In the absence of Will Chiang, Sonic Boom’s Frank Liu went bananas! Liu had a balanced 23 points in the game, almost scoring an equal amount in both halfs. Stroking two 3 pointers in the 2nd half couldn’t get them a win vs Team YM.

Jack Ho paced Team YM with a team high 18 points. YM has a number of scoring threats on their squad and it showed with only one person held scoreless! YM’s Dan Therman added 11 points, while Sonic Boom’s Alex Majak had 13 points and Ian Pierre-Louis had 11 point in the losing effort.

Team Stallions 75 – War Pigs 37

After one of their best performances of the season, Team War Pigs was run out of town by Team Stallions! Brian “Hosty” Host went H.A.M. with his season best 25 points. Roger “I keep misspelling your last name every week” Sheung had 18, and Nate Lawerence had 15 points all on 3 pointers!!!

Rich Vandergriend topped Team War Pigs with 12 points, and Al Palga had 6 points in this lopsided loss.
