Fight For Fall 2015 Season Preview

Conference / Schedule Announcement

As I drove into town looking at the Richmond Oval loom larger the closer I came to it, that feeling came over me again!  That feeling I’ve had every single Vancouver Metro league opening game I’ve played in or attended since the days at Vancouver College came over me.  The anticipation of the first week for the Vancouver Metro league was in the air, and it was undeniable!  You could see and feel it in the players new to the Metro league, and the veteran Metro leaguers too!  A larger group of teams would enter this fall league, which would rival the record for teams signed up in the fall (16)!  The West and East Conferences are chalked full of new talent trying to stake claim to being the best team in this season’s fall league.

We have to start off with the four time Metro League champion Stallions squad!  Roger Shueng has been a mainstay for this team since its inception. With new players coming and going, they still contend for the championship every single season!  Key players like Mark Halfnights, Elliot Mason, newcomer Doug Plumb, and the former National Player of the Year Brody Greig, the Stallions have put themselves up as the team to beat once again!  The West conference Is packed full of talent from top to bottom, which will prove to be a test for any team that comes out on top in the end.

It is a who’s who of talent when you speak about the veteran teams.  Sonic Boom, Ball So Hard, Western Union (formerly LiveStock), and the veteran Team SWAT, have the pedigree to make every game a tug of war.  The backcourt of Joey Haywood and Mark Mitchell make Sonic Boom a threat every game.  While Team Swat is anchored by Gene and Richie Wolf, and Stuart Wallensteen have talent to overcome losing a few key players.  The Rookies and Warriors are wild cards, and it will take a few games to see what type of teams they are.

SB Battle sports one of the best challenges to the Stallions this season!  With players like: Clay Crellin, Kadeem Willis, Ransford Brempong, and the all-time single game scoring record holder Demitri Harris, SB is going to be exciting to watch and hard to stop.  Not to mention, they are missing Gabe “G2” Gibbs to boot!

The East Conference is also has current and former Metro league champions!  YMCMB are former league champions, while Sofa King Good are the current and multi time champions!  Both teams are filled with talent and will make for great games no matter who they play against.  Core and Still Ballin are veteran teams that continue to knock on the door of championship success, but seen to be a half step from putting it all together.

The new teams in Hoop Fiends, Suicide Squad, Deep Throwers, and Metro Kings are new to the league, and will have a steep learning curve on what they need to do to be considered to be a top team in the league!

With that said, let’s get into the action!
